Home Owner: Georgia Homeowner, Records on file with Gwinnett County Department of Planning & Development indicate that CedarMate™ Residential Siding Products (CedarMate™ ) were used in the original construction of the home located at the address stated above. If you are not the current owner of the above referenced residence – please forward this information to the appropriate party or advise the settlement agent indicated below as to the identity of current homeowner as soon as possible, as time is of the essence. CedarMate™ siding was commonly used as a 'builders' grade' siding product throughout Georgia from the early 1970’s through the late 1990’s in the manufacturing of “contemporary style” homes. In or around 1990, groups of “contemporary style” homeowners that were constructed with CedarMate™ siding products collectively asserted the following two separate allegations: 1. CedarMate™ siding products were flawed in their design and in their manufacturing process – in that said products were prone to unusually high levels of “moisture retention” causing pre-maturely product degradation and 2. CedarMate™ products caused significant damage to homes’ sub-structure CedarMate™, Inc., based in Ontario Canada, vehemently denies any such flaw or defect in design and/or manufacturing process and subsequently denies all liability related to any such claims. However, on April 2,1992, CedarMate™, Inc.
voluntarily entered into a sealed, out-of-court “settlement agreement” to
reimburse homeowners of “contemporary style” homes originally constructed
with CedarMate™ siding within a 15 year window. In this “agreement,” CedarMate™ agreed to voluntarily compensate homeowners for replacement of CedarMate™ products on a pro-rated scale over the following 15 year period.
